British Science Week 2022
Each class participated in Science themed activities for British Science Week this year which happened between 11th March through to 20th March. The overarching theme for this year was ‘Growth’ and each class completed a practical based activity around growth of some kind. All classes had lots of fun and really enjoyed their activities – they also developed their scientific skills when doing these activities which was fantastic to see!
Nursery – The children in Nursery investigated how we as humans grow as we transform from babies into toddlers, they also measured themselves and will revisit this in the Summer to see if and how much they have grown!
Reception – The children in Reception have completed several activities around the theme of growth. They investigated different types of seed and discussed which ones they thought would grow first and used their observation skills to support this. They also completed an activity about growing patterns too.
Year 1 – The children in Year 1 investigated corn slime and how it grows and transforms from one thing into another. We completed a whole class investigation and the children were thrilled to see the physical changes in front of their eyes.
Year 3 – The children in Year 3 completed an activity which focussed on awe and wonder. They investigated colours and paper towels and how colour mixing can be investigated in this way.
Year 4 – The children in Year 4 made some fantastic gentoo penguin nests. They designed a nest and collected outdoor materials to create a model of the nest. The children also linked this to their Geography topic.
Year 5 – The children in Year 5 investigated life on another planet, they designed and created their own martian. Some of the end designs were absolutely fantastic!
